Simulation games
Simulation games hand you a system and let you push on it. There is rarely a way to win outright and rarely a way to lose; there is a set of interacting rules, a slowly changing state, and the specific pleasure of understanding something well enough to steer it.
Management, building and sandbox
Management sims give you constrained resources and competing demands — a shop, a hospital, a colony — and let the tension come from the trade-offs. Building games loosen the constraints and make construction itself the point. Pure sandboxes remove goals altogether and trust that a sufficiently interesting system is its own reward, which, when the system is good, it is.
Idle and incremental games
Incremental games make progression itself the subject: numbers grow, new mechanics unlock, and the shape of the whole system slowly reveals itself over hours. They are designed to be left running, which is why they took hold on the web and on mobile in particular.
What to expect
Simulation games are usually slower to start than anything else here. The first ten minutes often look simple, and the interesting behaviour appears once several systems are running at once. If a sim seems shallow at first, that is frequently by design — give it until the second or third mechanic unlocks before deciding.
They run everywhere, from phones to high-end PCs. Each listing tells you the platforms it supports and links you to where you can play or buy it.
